Description
Bat began life as an orphan raised by his adoptive mother, Toyo, among other children. Seeking to lessen Toyo's burden, he departed his village, vowing to return successful. Survival in the wasteland forced him into thievery, resulting in imprisonment within Lin's village for attempting to steal food. There, he met Kenshiro and tried to manipulate the warrior into aiding his escape and seizing control of the village. Witnessing Kenshiro's true power firsthand changed him, leading Bat to voluntarily become Kenshiro's traveling companion.
Shaped by the wasteland's harshness, Bat was initially brash and insensitive. Traveling with Kenshiro fostered his gradual maturity. His technical aptitude proved invaluable, especially in repairing machinery and operating their dune buggy. He developed a protective, brotherly bond with Lin, another young companion.
After a significant timeskip, Bat co-founded and co-led the Hokuto Army with Lin, opposing oppressive forces including Jakou's corrupt Imperial Forces and later the Tentei's army. His feelings for Lin deepened into romantic love. When Lin was kidnapped and taken to the Land of Asura, he joined Kenshiro's rescue mission. Following Lin's rescue, she was afflicted by Kaioh's Shikanhaku pressure point, causing her to fall in love with the first person she saw. Bat prepared to step aside for Kenshiro, but Kenshiro entrusted Lin to his care.
In the final story arc, Bat and Lin became a couple and married. Consumed by guilt over Lin's condition, Bat used his limited knowledge of Hokuto Shinken to erase her memories. Discovering Kenshiro also suffered amnesia, Bat facilitated their reunion while confronting Bolge, an enemy from Kenshiro's past. Bat suffered a mortal wound during this fight. With his last strength, he killed Bolge as Bolge attempted to abduct Lin. His dying wish was for Kenshiro and Lin to be together. Lin chose to return to Bat, finding him revived by Kenshiro's healing techniques. They lived out their lives as husband and wife.
His character is quantitatively rated with Power: 2, Speed: 3, Skills: 2, Looks: 4, Charisma: 4. Within the narrative of "Shin Kyūseishu Densetsu Hokuto no Ken: Toki-den," he appears in a supporting capacity, maintaining his established role within the group dynamics surrounding Kenshiro, consistent with his portrayal across the broader series and media adaptations.
