Description
Galo Thymos is the main protagonist of the film, serving as the newest recruit of the high-tech firefighting team Burning Rescue. He is a young man with a well-built, athletic physique and a tan complexion. His most distinctive physical feature is a long, bright blue mohawk with the sides of his head shaved, matching his blue eyebrows. His teal eyes have small red segments within them. He is typically seen shirtless, wearing only the red pants of his uniform, which display a yellow number three on the side, along with black and yellow boots and gloves. A white medical compression sleeve is always worn on his left arm, concealing several burn scars he received during a rescue mission early in his career.

True to his profession, Galo is defined by what he calls his burning soul, an unquenchable passion to extinguish any blaze and right any wrong. He is impulsive and reckless, known for rushing headfirst into danger without a plan and often speaking his mind without a filter. This impatience makes him resistant to following orders that delay immediate action and frequently puts him at odds with his superiors. While his behavior often leads others to dismiss him as a simple-minded muscle head, this perception belies a deeply compassionate nature. He hates to see others suffer and possesses a strong, unwavering sense of justice. His seemingly odd or unorthodox plans, born from instinct rather than logic, have a surprising tendency to succeed.

A significant aspect of Galo's personality is his intense, almost obsessive interest in the Hikeshi, the firemen of Japan's Edo period. He is highly knowledgeable on the subject and has a premade presentation about their history and tools. This fascination directly influences his work, as he has incorporated the design and symbolism of the Hikeshi's matoi, a traditional firefighter's standard, into his personal gear and fighting style.

Galo's background and motivations are rooted in a childhood trauma. When he was a child, his home was set ablaze, and he was rescued by a college student named Kray Foresight. This event left Galo with a lifelong admiration for Kray, whom he views as a hero. Driven by a desire to make his idol proud, he dedicated himself to becoming a firefighter. However, his training hours were below the minimum requirement, and he was only accepted into Burning Rescue after Kray personally intervened on his behalf.

Throughout the story, Galo's role evolves from a zealous rookie fighting the terrorist group known as Mad Burnish to a seeker of truth. His unwavering determination to extinguish what is wrong leads him to question the nature of his enemy. He refuses to target a group of people without understanding why they fight. This curiosity drives him to seek out the Burnish, leading to a confrontation with their leader, Lio Fotia. It is through this initial antagonism that Galo uncovers Kray's secret experiments on the Burnish and the true cause of the world's impending destruction. His unquestioning faith in his hero becomes his greatest flaw, making him easily manipulated, but his inherent sense of justice ultimately forces him to reject Kray's plan to sacrifice the Burnish for a select few's survival.

Key relationships define Galo's journey. His dynamic with his idol Kray Foresight is central, as he must confront the shattering of his lifelong hero worship. His relationship with Lio Fotia is the film's most significant, transforming from enemies to allies and partners. Galo's ability to see past Lio's destructive flames to the person in pain within allows them to join forces. This is symbolized by their co-piloting of a giant mecha and a pivotal moment where Galo revives Lio using a mouth-to-mouth flame transfer, a technique he learned from witnessing Lio's own failed attempt to save a fellow Burnish. Within Burning Rescue, he forms a close bond with his pilot colleague, Aina Ardebit. Aina often acts as his foil, grounding his impulsiveness, but she is also his most steadfast supporter.

Galo's character development is a shift from blind obedience to independent conviction. He begins as a naive rookie who sees the world in simple terms of heroes and villains. After learning the truth about Kray's experiments and the Burnish's plight, he undergoes a crisis of faith. He ultimately proves his growth by standing up to his former hero, being imprisoned for it, and returning to save the world not by extinguishing flames, but by helping Lio and the Promare themselves find release, leading to a new beginning for humanity.

In terms of abilities, Galo is a proficient firefighter and emergency medical technician, having passed his aptitude exams with high marks. He is highly adaptable in combat and an expert in using his signature weapon, the matoi, a staff-like tool that can convert into a freeze gun or a water chainsaw. His primary combat equipment is the Matoi Tech, a small, agile mecha created by his colleague Lucia. This mech is designed for speed and rescue and has a cooling system capable of subduing even the most powerful Burnish flames. Later, he co-pilots a larger mecha, which he and Lio redesign into Lio de Galon, combining Galo's raw power with Lio's pyrokinesis.
