Description
Palmon is a plant-type Digimon and the longtime partner of Tachikawa Mimi. She appears in Digimon Adventure 02 as a returning member of the older generation of partner Digimon who supports the new heroes, having originally been one of the central partner Digimon in the earlier Digimon Adventure series. She is a small, flower-like creature with a tropical blossom growing from her head, vine-like arms tipped with claws, and root-shaped feet. During the day she spreads her arms to perform photosynthesis, and she can absorb nutrients from the soil through her feet, although she is also fully able to walk. The flower on her head releases different scents according to her emotions, giving off a sweet fragrance when she is happy and a powerful, unpleasant odor when she is angry or senses danger, with the latter strong enough to drive away larger Digimon.
Her background leading into Digimon Adventure 02 shapes her role throughout the series. Before the events of the sequel, Mimi gave up the power of her Crest to help awaken the guardian Digimon of the Digital World, which caused Palmon to lose the ability to digivolve into her higher form Lilimon. In addition, the Dark Towers created by the new antagonist and the influence of Dark Digivices prevent the original partner Digimon from reaching even their Champion forms during the early part of the series. Despite these limitations, Palmon remains an active and willing participant in the new conflict rather than stepping aside.
Palmon has a playful, cheerful, and childlike personality, and she gets along easily with almost everyone she meets. She shares many traits with Mimi, being extroverted, emotional, and expressive, and the two often mirror each other's moods, laughing together when things go well and crying together when they are sad. She is also a very sensitive and kind Digimon who worries about the well-being of others and tries to help wherever she can. In the earlier series she was self-conscious about her appearance, a feeling that faded after she gained the ability to digivolve into Lilimon.
