TV-Series
Description
Tōru Miyagishi is a 23-year-old junior chef working at the Kissuisō hot spring inn under head chef Renji Togashi. Possessing considerable culinary talent, he sometimes substitutes at the rival Fukuya Inn when their chefs are unavailable. In the kitchen, his professional demeanor is outspoken and prone to frustration during high-pressure situations. He maintains exacting standards and voices criticism bluntly, often directing harsh reprimands at apprentice chef Minko Tsurugi, whom he personally accepted into the kitchen against convention.

Minko Tsurugi develops romantic feelings for him, partly stemming from his role in enabling her career path. This results in jealousy when he interacts with other female staff, particularly Ohana Matsumae. His dynamic with Ohana shifts significantly: initial mutual intimidation and dislike evolve into a more complex relationship. He becomes observant of Ohana's efforts and well-being, returning urgently to assist during a staffing crisis caused by the inn owner's hospitalization. His attentiveness, however, is explicitly non-romantic, rooted in professional respect and concern for colleagues.

His mentorship of Minko involves rigorous training and frequent criticism intended to hone her skills, reflecting his dedication to culinary excellence and responsibility for her development. Despite his harsh exterior, he shows underlying care for the Kissuisō team, valuing their collective efforts. In the series' conclusion, he actively advocates for Minko's acceptance into a professional restaurant position, facilitating her career progression beyond Kissuisō. His own dream is to eventually lead his own kitchen. He remains committed to Kissuisō, continuing his work through the inn's operational challenges and eventual closure planning as depicted in the film *Home Sweet Home*.
