Negi Springfield was born in Wales to Nagi Springfield, the legendary "Thousand Master," and Arika Anarchia Entheofushia, Princess of the Ostian Empire. Shortly after his birth, Arika was executed for alleged ties to the enemy Cosmo Entelecheia, though secretly rescued by Nagi and Ala Rubra; Negi remained unaware of her identity for years. After both parents vanished, he grew up in a remote English village under his cousin Nekane Springfield's care, viewing her as an older sister. At age four, demons attacked the village. Nagi intervened, saving Negi, entrusting him with his staff, and departing immediately. This event forged Negi's determination to become a powerful mage and find his father.
Relocated to a Welsh magician village, Negi dedicated himself to study, graduating top of his class from Meridiana Magic Academy at age nine. Training to become a Magister Magi, he accepted a teaching post at Japan's Mahora Academy. Assigned as homeroom and English teacher for Class 2-A (later 3-A), comprising 31 middle school girls, he concealed his magic while navigating classroom life. Initial struggles involved earning student trust, especially after Asuna Kagurazaka discovered his secret early. Kind, optimistic, and mature in responsibility yet childishly naive emotionally, Negi often overlooked romantic feelings from students. He disliked baths and clung to others while sleeping due to childhood habits. A significant flaw was his tendency to dangerously overexert himself physically and magically striving to match his father's legacy, worrying his allies.
Specializing in wind and lightning magic, Negi wielded his father's staff. Early conflicts, like battling the vampire Evangeline A.K. McDowell, forced him into forming "Pactio" contracts—magical agreements sealed with kisses—granting him Ministra Magi partners like Asuna, whose unique artifacts enhanced his power. Subsequent arcs saw Negi confront Eastern mages during a Kyoto trip, forming more Pactios with students like Konoka Konoe and Setsuna Sakurazaki. After defeats against the mage Fate Averruncus, Negi intensified combat training, mastering Evangeline's dangerous dark art "Magia Erebea" at great physical risk. This technique internalized magic for enhanced strength but risked corruption.
Investigating Nagi's whereabouts led Negi and key students to the magical dimension Mundus Magicus. There, they formed the brigade "Ala Alba" and allied with former Ala Rubra members like Jack Rakan. Negi learned his mother's true identity and her role in the ancient war, alongside Mundus Magicus's instability. In the final conflict against Cosmo Entelecheia—which sought to exploit Asuna's power to erase magical beings—Negi coordinated multidimensional forces to storm their stronghold, successfully thwarting their plans.
Later in life, Negi married student Chisame Hasegawa, fathering a daughter, Negako. His grandson, Touta Konoe, became the protagonist of the sequel *UQ Holder!* timeline. Negi died at age 71 in an alternate world.
