OVA
Description
Negi Springfield is a ten-year-old Welsh mage serving as the English teacher and homeroom instructor for Class 3-A at Mahora Academy. He is the son of Nagi Springfield, the legendary "Thousand Master," and Arika Anarchia Entheofushia, the former queen of the Vespertatia Empire in the magic world, granting him royal status there. Raised by his cousin Nekane Springfield following his father's disappearance, Negi graduated top of his class from magic school at age nine. His final assignment requires teaching at Mahora while concealing his magic, though his students discover this secret quickly.

In the *Negima!? Spring OVA*, Negi joins Class 3-A on a spring break trip to a private island. Tension flares with his roommate, student Asuna Kagurazaka, after he dismisses her concerns about his late-night magical studies, leading her to confiscate his magic book. Later, a sneeze from Negi accidentally rips Asuna's clothes off, escalating her anger. Student Ayaka Yukihiro attempts to cheer him up by taking him to the island via private plane, but the entire class unexpectedly joins the trip. During beach activities, a frisbee strike causes Negi to nearly drown, prompting several panicked students to inadvertently smother him while checking his condition.

Across other media, Negi evolves significantly. He forms temporary magical contracts, Pactios, with multiple students, gaining artifacts like "Mile Vincula" that grant access to his partners' abilities. Initially specializing in wind and lightning magic reflecting his father's abilities, he compensates for limited combat experience by training in martial arts, mastering techniques like instant movement (*shundou*). Under mentors Evangeline McDowell and Jack Rakan, he learns "Magia Erebea," a dark magic absorbing spells into his body to enhance physical or elemental traits, such as lightning infusion for speed. This magic eventually spreads across his body, contributing to a later physical transformation.

In the sequel *UQ Holder!*, Negi achieves renown as "The Greatest Mage" but becomes immortal after mastering Magia Erebea. He marries student Chisame Hasegawa and has descendants, including grandson Touta Konoe. Decades later, he battles the Mage of the Beginning but falls victim to its "Resonance" ability, connecting him to universal suffering and enabling the Mage's possession. Though initially believed dead, he resurfaces to recruit allies, displaying immense power that instills widespread fear. After his possessed form is defeated, he relinquishes immortality and lives peacefully with former classmates on Planet Shinobu.

In the *Negima!?* anime continuity, Negi's backstory omits darker elements like his village's destruction. He struggles more with secrecy, resulting in his entire class learning of his magic early. A magical punishment temporarily transforms him into a Chupacabra, resolved only after forming Pactios with most students. This adaptation also downplays his combat prowess relative to the manga.
