Kikuri is a non-human spirit manifesting as a young girl of about seven. She has dark brown shoulder-length hair and striking dark violet eyes usually showing three white reflections; these shift to reflect four lights during significant events, such as encounters with the Master of Hell. Her attire consists of various kimonos: initially a black kimono with golden linings and a purple obi in *Two Mirrors*, later changing to a dark magenta kimono with a blue obi in *Three Vessels*. She often wears a red flower in her hair. In *Three Vessels*, she exists as a wind-up doll requiring periodic winding via a key on her back to maintain mobility, though she retains the ability to speak without movement.
Her personality blends childish playfulness with cruelty. She acts impulsively, delights in annoying Ai's companions by using derogatory nicknames like "baldy" for Wanyuudou, "old woman" for Hone Onna, and "eyeball" for Ichimokuren. Kikuri interferes with their duties, takes pleasure in minor destructive acts like snipping flowers, and displays indifference or amusement toward human suffering, giggling at a dying man or taunting victims like Takuma Kurebayashi during his hardships. Yet, she also exhibits innocence and compassion, expressing fondness for wieners, enjoying exploration of the human world, and inviting others to play. She openly states her liking for Ai Enma, shedding tears when Ai temporarily dies and complimenting her afterward. Kikuri cares for Yamawaro, whom she calls "Waro Waro," showing concern for his well-being while demanding he address her as "Princess Kikuri" and wind her key. Her loyalty lies primarily with Ai, obeying her commands instantly while ignoring others unless they invoke Ai's displeasure.
Kikuri serves as an unwitting vessel for the Master of Hell, unaware of the entity's control over her. The Master possesses her completely on multiple occasions, preceded by physical sensations like forehead itchiness. She travels freely between the human world and the Realm of Eternal Twilight, an ability shared only with Ai, her companions, and the Master, and can bring others into or out of this realm. Her other abilities include teleportation, magically changing clothes, levitation, hypnotism (used once to make a woman believe Kikuri was her daughter), and reviving comatose individuals through lip contact. She manipulates her loincloth to bind or suspend objects and people.
Her role involves significant interactions: she aids mobs targeting Takuma Kurebayashi by revealing his hiding spots during conflicts in Lovely Hills. She resents vain individuals and dislikes cats. Her dynamic with Ai's companions is contentious; they dislike her behavior but show underlying care, as when Wanyuudou protects her from malicious humans. Kikuri repeatedly states her ambition to become Hell Girl and reacts negatively to obstacles hindering this goal. Her story spans seasons, with her doll form in *Three Vessels* indicating a loss of her original body.
