Description
Eri Takabe is a first-year student in the violin department at the Shukusei Music Academy, where she lives in the girls' dormitory. She comes from an extraordinarily affluent background, as her grandfather is the founder of a major department store and her father serves as the chairman of the Takabe Group conglomerate. Despite this privileged upbringing, she possesses a humble disposition and actively dislikes being treated differently or having her wealth be a source of conscious attention from others. Physically, she is noted to be of a shorter stature with long purple or blue hair and red or violet eyes.
Her personality is defined by a strong sense of justice, kindness, and an unwavering adherence to her principles. Beyond these traits, her most defining characteristic is a remarkably acute and terrifyingly keen intuition. This sixth sense allows her to perceive hidden dangers, threats, and agendas that others completely miss, making her uniquely suited to be the primary obstacle to those with malicious intentions.
Eri’s primary motivation throughout the narrative is to protect her fellow students from exploitation. She quickly senses the crisis posed by the dormitory's superintendent, Shusaku, who uses his position to blackmail and humiliate the female residents. She actively works to expose his schemes and gather evidence against him, effectively making it her mission to bring an end to his campaign of psychological and physical torment.
Within the story, Eri serves as the primary adversary to Shusaku and the central moral counterforce against his actions. While other girls are systematically targeted, Eri remains frustratingly out of his reach. She reports her own actions to him in great detail, but this is revealed to be a clever smoke screen to prevent him from approaching her. She also uses her intuition to discover his hidden cameras, such as the hole in the bathroom where he installed his surveillance equipment. In the original storyline, she ultimately seals his fate by setting a trap that leads to his exposure to the police.
Her key relationships center on her opposition to Shusaku. While she is a part of the academy's social circle, she is noted to be somewhat more solitary than other characters, often preferring to stay in her room. This makes her difficult to spy on, as there is no partner to exploit for access. As the conflict escalates, she works alongside another student, Kaori, to organize resistance against the antagonist.
Throughout the narrative, Eri undergoes a significant development from a cautious observer to an active force for change. In the first iteration of events, her actions lead to Shusaku's death in a car accident while fleeing from the police. However, in the following cycle, represented in Shusaku Replay, she guides him toward a different path. Instead of simply stopping him, her influence contributes to saving Shusaku himself, leading to a conclusion where he is freed from his destructive cycle. In a climactic confrontation, Shusaku reveals his awareness that he is a character within a fictional game, framing Eri's moral resistance in meta-narrative terms. Her persistent virtue creates a scenario where even the antagonist achieves a form of redemption through her influence.
Eri’s most notable ability is her extraordinary perceptiveness. This power makes it virtually impossible for Shusaku to find a weakness to exploit or to capture any compromising images of her, as she is always conscious of potential surveillance. In the main continuity of the original work and its primary sequel, she is the only character among Shusaku's targets who is never successfully humiliated or assaulted, consistently remaining one step ahead of his schemes.
