Description
Lieutenant Commander Hikozaemon Tokugawa, 62, from Aichi Prefecture, serves as the chief engineer aboard the space battleship Yamato. An experienced veteran, he previously served as chief engineer on the Kirishima, flagship of the 1st Fleet, under Captain Juzo Okita during the inner-planetary conflicts before the Garmillas war. This established a long-standing professional relationship and bond of trust with Okita prior to their Yamato assignment.
Aboard the Yamato, Tokugawa commands the engineering division, overseeing the operation and maintenance of the ship's critical systems, including the wave motion engine. He leads a team comprising assistant engineer Susumu Yamazaki, with whom he shares a sincere bond of trust, and engineer Sukeharu Yabu. Tokugawa mentored Yabu during their service together on the Kirishima, and Yabu regards Tokugawa as his teacher. While noted as a first-class engineer, Yabu is characterized as somewhat timid and skeptical, contrasting with Tokugawa's seasoned leadership.
During the Yamato's 2199 mission to Iscandar, Tokugawa's responsibilities encompass damage control operations when the ship comes under attack, aiming to prevent situations from worsening. He typically delegates direct leadership of damage control teams to Yamazaki, focusing instead on broader engineering oversight. His technical expertise and experience contribute to the vessel's functionality during its extended voyage. His involvement or activities in later story arcs, including the Comet Empire conflict, subsequent seasons, or spin-off media beyond the 2199 timeframe, are not documented.
