Movie
Description
Rinka Hayami is a student of Kunugigaoka Junior High School's Class 3-E, where she serves as one of the class's primary marksmanship specialists. Her background reveals a quiet resilience forged by circumstance, as she was placed in the remedial class due to declining grades. The cause of her academic struggles was not a lack of ability but her own accommodating nature, as she was frequently saddled with chores and requests from former classmates, leaving her insufficient time to focus on her studies. This pattern of being unable to refuse others contributed to her family tensions, particularly with her mother, regarding her academic standing.

Physically, Hayami is characterized by her medium-length wavy light brown hair, which she initially wore loose. She later adopted a practical style of tying it into two low pigtails to avoid resembling a certain teacher, finding the new style better suited for activity. She possesses sharp, perceptive eyes, and her overall appearance is marked by a sense of quiet composure. Her background in jazz dance has given her excellent dynamic vision, balance, and finger dexterity, physical attributes that directly enhance her combat skills.

Hayami's personality is defined by a notable stoicism and a professional, businesslike demeanor. She speaks little and rarely displays her emotions openly, which can give others the impression of her being aloof or cold. However, this exterior masks a thoughtful individual who cares about class harmony and takes her responsibilities seriously. She is straightforward, avoids making excuses, and possesses a strong inner core. Despite her reserved nature, she is not anti-social and demonstrates a softer side on rare occasions, such as when she encounters kittens, a known weakness that causes her to drop her usual composed facade. Some of her male classmates have described her as tsundere due to the gap between her blunt exterior and her hidden, caring nature.

Her primary motivation throughout the series revolves around fulfilling her role within Class 3-E effectively and regaining her self-confidence. An early low point occurs during a summer assassination mission where the pressure of actual combat causes her skills to falter, leading to a failed operation and intense self-recrimination. Her pivotal moment of growth arrives during a subsequent battle against an assassin named Gastro, where encouragement from her teacher helps her realize she does not have to bear the weight of responsibility alone and that her classmates will support her. This experience reaffirms her trust in her comrades and her teacher, allowing her to overcome her fears and perform her duties successfully. From this point, she gradually becomes more expressive and begins to show her care for others in her own awkward way.

In the story, Hayami acts as a key tactical asset for Class 3-E, most often fulfilling the role of a mobile sniper. While her partner Ryunosuke Chiba specializes in long-range, stationary precision shooting, Hayami excels in high-mobility sniping. Her excellent dynamic vision and balance allow her to fire accurately from unstable or precarious positions, such as hanging from tree branches. She is consistently ranked as the top female shooter in the class and is widely recognized for her ability to take down moving targets. In a significant class-wide survival game, her skills earned her the designation of a mobile artillery platform, and she was responsible for eliminating multiple opponents before being taken out of the game.

Her relationships with other characters are defined by quiet synergy. She is most frequently partnered with Ryunosuke Chiba, with whom she shares a near-telepathic working relationship as the class's premier sniper duo. Outside of work-related tasks, however, the two struggle to maintain conversation due to their similarly taciturn personalities. On Valentine's Day, she gave chocolate to Chiba, though the nature of the gift as an expression of genuine affection or mere obligation remained ambiguous. She shares a silent connection with Toka Yada through a mutual appreciation for dance, and she can often be seen quietly observing other classmates, such as the avid reader Yukiko Kanzaki, from a distance. She is also known to use her cold gaze to shut down the inappropriate jokes of another classmate.

Hayami's development is subtle but clear. She begins as a highly reserved girl who internalizes her failures and struggles with self-doubt. Through the trust and camaraderie fostered within Class 3-E, she learns to rely on others and accepts her own value within the group. Her strained relationship with her mother also shows signs of improvement, aided by the gentle interventions of her teachers. By the end of the series, she has grown into a more confident individual, able to show her emotions more openly to those around her. Years after graduation, she is seen with her hair returned to its original style, having graduated from university and gone to work for Chiba, who has since opened his own architectural design office.
