Description
Vanilla Mieux is one of the two central characters in the magical girl narrative, serving as both the best friend and primary rival to Chocolat Meilleure. In the magical world, she comes from a prestigious and elite family as the daughter of the reigning Queen, Candy Minue, which makes her a princess of the Magical Kingdom. When she travels to the human world to participate in the competition for the throne, she adopts the alias Vanilla Aisu. Her physical appearance includes short blond hair, purple eyes, and the pointed ears characteristic of a witch, and she stands approximately 150 centimeters tall, appearing to be around ten years old in human terms.

Vanilla's personality is designed as a gentle contrast to the more forceful and energetic nature of her friend Chocolat. She is depicted as shy, sensitive, and somewhat prone to crying, yet she is also deeply kind, considerate, and reliable. She possesses a realistic and thoughtful nature, often taking care of small daily tasks such as pulling weeds in the garden. Her demeanor in the magical world, where her timidity was often looked down upon, is unexpectedly advantageous in the human realm, as her soft and delicate manner makes her highly popular with human boys. Her primary passion is baking, and she harbors a dream of one day owning her own cake shop. Her familiar, a small white mouse named Blanca, assists and advises her throughout her journey.

The core of Vanilla's motivation and the central conflict of her character arc stem from her relationship with her mother, the Queen. She struggles with a profound insecurity, believing that her mother does not truly love her and that her value is solely tied to being the queen's daughter. This deep-seated sadness and loneliness make her vulnerable to manipulation. The character Pierre exploits these feelings, tricking her into believing she is actually the daughter of the dark magician Ogur. This deception causes her to undergo a dramatic transformation, becoming the Black Princess or Ogre Princess, and she becomes an enemy to Chocolat. This dark turn is a pivotal role in the story, shifting her from a passive competitor to an active antagonist for a period. She is ultimately saved and restored to her true self through the power of Chocolat's magic, specifically the spell known as Filtre, which reaches her heart and purifies her darkness.

Vanilla's key relationships drive much of the plot. Her bond with Chocolat Meilleure is the most significant, encompassing both deep friendship and fierce rivalry as they compete to succeed the throne. This relationship is tested but ultimately proves unbreakable, as Chocolat is the one who saves her from the darkness. Her relationship with her mother, Queen Candy Minue, is a source of both privilege and deep pain, shaping her insecurities. She also develops a romantic relationship with Houx, a character who was formerly one of Chocolat's friends and suitors. In the human world, her mentor is the pop idol witch Rockin Robin, and she attends Moegi Elementary School.

Vanilla undergoes significant development throughout the story. Beginning as a timid and somewhat insecure girl who relies heavily on her friend, she experiences a fall into darkness that forces her to confront her deepest fears and negative emotions. After being rescued, she emerges with a stronger sense of self. Her final fate differs between the original manga and the anime adaptation. In the manga, she ultimately succeeds her mother and becomes the next queen of the Magical World, ruling alongside Houx. In the anime, she makes the conscious decision to renounce the throne, believing Chocolat is more suitable to be queen, and chooses instead to return to the human world with Chocolat to live together.

As a witch, Vanilla wields a magical staff with a large diamond top known as the Milky Quartz, which is associated with spring winds. Her staff is also equipped with several other attachments that power specific spells, including a cloud-shaped pearl for a spell called Bubble Bath, and a drop-shaped Celestite for a spell called Tears. Among her notable magical abilities are the spells Fusée Écume, which functions as a bubble gun, Larme Grêle, which creates a hail of tears, Nuage de Express, which conjures a cloud train, and Obscurité Cristallisation, a dark crystallization spell she uses while under the influence of her dark transformation.
