Description
Aki Hinata is the mother of Fuyuki and Natsumi Hinata, serving as the head of the household where the alien Keroro Platoon resides. She works as an editor for a manga magazine, a profession that demands much of her time and often keeps her away from home. Her career as a manga editor directly influences her role in the story, as she allows the frog-like alien Keroro to stay in her home primarily because she finds his unique appearance and behavior to be perfect source material for a new character in her manga, finding this far easier than creating an original concept.
Personality-wise, Aki is notably laid-back, calm, and level-headed. It is rare to see her angry or worried, and she was the only member of her family not to be surprised by the sudden appearance of an alien in their house; instead, she was overjoyed by the creative opportunity. She has a warm and bubbly demeanor that resembles her son Fuyuki, while her athletic and skilled nature is more similar to her daughter Natsumi. Aki has several distinctive quirks, including a strange attraction to things that are sticky and moist, and she is also known to be deeply afraid of animals, to the point of screaming or fainting at the sight of them, which stands as her only notable weakness.
As a mother, Aki is caring and good-hearted, ensuring her children grow up properly despite her busy schedule. When she does have time off, she makes an effort to spend it with her family. Her husband is rarely mentioned and never appears in the main story, though there are hints of his existence in both the anime and manga. Her childrens names follow a seasonal theme, with Natsumi meaning summer, Aki meaning autumn, and Fuyuki meaning winter, suggesting her husband name may contain the character for spring, Haru.
In terms of abilities, Aki is an exceptionally powerful individual, often considered the strongest member of the Hinata family. She holds a black belt in aikido and is a master martial artist, with her skills evident since her youth. Her physical strength and athletic prowess are superior even to her daughter Natsumi, who is herself a formidable fighter. Aki is also known for her reckless driving, having earned the ironic nickname The Red Comet for her carelessness behind the wheel, which stands in contrast to her otherwise capable nature. She rides a powerful motorcycle, a Honda CBR1000RR, as her personal vehicle.
Throughout the series, Aki remains a pillar of stability and normalcy amidst the chaos caused by the Keroro Platoon. She is one of the few characters who can get along with the eccentric and often troublesome Kururu. Her relationships with the alien frogs are generally tolerant and even affectionate, though she is also the one who keeps them in check, and she is famously disappointed to learn that Keroro daily life on Earth is surprisingly mundane. Despite her terrifying driving, her fear of animals, and her unusual tastes, she remains the unflappable and dynamic center of the Hinata household.
