Description
Mina Ashido is a student in U.A. High School’s Class 1‑A and a supporting heroine in the final season of My Hero Academia. She is easily recognized by her distinctive appearance: pinkish skin, short fluffy pink hair, square black eyes with yellow irises, and two small pale-yellow horns that curve outward. These physical traits are a minor mutation linked to her Quirk and give her an alien‑like look which initially inspired her to consider the hero name Alien Queen; she later adopted the official hero name Pinky.
Ashido’s Quirk, Acid, is an Emitter‑type ability that allows her to secrete a corrosive liquid from her skin. She has precise control over two chemical properties: solubility and viscosity. By adjusting the acid’s solubility, she can make it either highly corrosive for offense or mild enough for non‑damaging uses. Manipulating viscosity lets her produce a thin, fluid stream for rapid attacks or a thick, gel‑like substance for defense. She can secrete acid from any part of her body, not just her hands, using it to dissolve obstacles, create footholds while climbing, or slide across melted surfaces. Notable techniques include Acid Shot, a shower of acidic projectiles; Acid Veil, a viscous barrier that dissolves incoming attacks; Acid Layback, which melts the ground beneath her feet for swift spinning movements; and Acidman, an ultimate move where she coats her entire body in high‑viscosity acid, granting both offensive and defensive power. During the Final War arc, she pushes her Quirk to its limits, causing her horns to grow longer and the left side of her body to temporarily lose its pink pigmentation. She develops an enhanced version called Acidman: Alma, which coats her in maximum‑solubility acid capable of melting even the steel body of the villain Gigantomachia.
Her personality is bright, high‑spirited, and infectious. She is often described as the mood maker of Class 1‑A, naturally getting along with everyone and acting as a lubricant for social interactions. She is highly expressive, easily excited, and unafraid to show her emotions, whether joy, frustration, or relief. She has a particular interest in romance and is curious about the love lives of her friends. Despite her social confidence, Ashido struggles academically and often performs poorly, which she acknowledges with a mix of anxious laughter and genuine frustration, leading classmates to view her as something of an airhead. However, she possesses a strong sense of justice and genuine courage. In middle school, when she and her friends were confronted by the immense villain Gigantomachia, she was the only one who dared to step forward and trick the monster into leaving by giving false directions, an act that deeply inspired her classmate Eijiro Kirishima. After that experience, she decided to become a hero, initially having considered career paths such as a dance instructor.
Mina Ashido’s background reveals a close childhood friendship with Eijiro Kirishima, whom she has known since junior high school. She is one of the few people aware of his attempts at a high school debut, and she looks forward to eventually revealing that fact. She is also on good terms with classmates such as Denki Kaminari, with whom she shares a penchant for lighthearted mischief. In the final season, her role expands as she interns under the former No. 9 hero, Yoroi Musha, refining her offensive and defensive capabilities. She proves herself a reliable ally during the Final War, using her Acidman techniques to engage powerful foes.
Ashido’s physical abilities complement her Quirk. She is an exceptionally skilled dancer, especially in breakdancing, which translates into excellent body control, agility, and reflexes. This makes her one of the most agile students in Class 1‑A and allows her to integrate acrobatic moves into combat. She is also capable in hand‑to‑hand combat, often combining her dance‑derived footwork with acid attacks. Her tactical awareness in battle is notable, as she can creatively adapt her Quirk’s properties to exploit opponent weaknesses and coordinate effectively with her team. Despite her academic shortcomings, she exhibits steady growth throughout the series, culminating in the final season where her Quirk evolution and bravery play a vital part in the climactic conflict.
