An orphan raised among others under adoptive mother Toyo's care, Bat left his village to ease her burden, intending to return successful. His journey across the post-apocalyptic wasteland led to imprisonment in Lin's village for stealing food. Sharing a cell, he witnessed Kenshiro's martial arts mastery firsthand during an escape and battle against local oppressors, compelling Bat to become Kenshiro's self-appointed companion, initially driven by survival and opportunism.
Shaped by the wasteland into a brash, self-serving youth, Bat matured through experiences alongside Kenshiro. He proved resourceful, using mechanical skills to operate a vital dune buggy. He developed protective, brotherly feelings for fellow orphan Lin, who joined their travels. Learning of Toyo's death further deepened his understanding of loss and responsibility.
After a timeskip, Bat rose to co-lead the Hokuto Army with Lin, directing resistance against the Imperial Forces under Jakoh and later the Celestial Emperor. During this struggle, his feelings for Lin evolved into romantic love. When Lin was kidnapped to the Land of Asura, Bat followed Kenshiro to aid her rescue. After her return, afflicted by the Shikanhaku technique causing her to love the first person seen, Bat prioritized Lin's happiness over his own feelings, prepared to step aside for Kenshiro. Kenshiro instead entrusted Lin to Bat.
Ultimately becoming a couple and marrying, Bat wrestled with guilt that Lin's affection stemmed from manipulation. Using rudimentary Hokuto Shinken knowledge, he erased her memories and arranged for her to meet an amnesiac Kenshiro, hoping they would find happiness. To shield them from the vengeful enemy Bolge targeting Kenshiro, Bat impersonated him. This resulted in Bat's capture, torture, and near-fatal injuries. Kenshiro intervened, regained his memories, and defeated Bolge. Dying, Bat urged Kenshiro and Lin together, but Lin chose to stay with Bat. Kenshiro revived him using pressure points, allowing Bat and Lin to live as husband and wife.
Bat demonstrated leadership and combat involvement against the Celestial Empire. He played a key role in convincing bounty hunter Ein to join the Hokuto Army, forging strong camaraderie. Their partnership included joint operations like storming Lord Beron's castle. Ein's later heroic sacrifice deeply affected Bat, who mourned him profoundly.
In expanded media such as the OVA series "The Legends of the True Savior," Bat appeared during events of the Holy Emperor arc and stories focused on Raoh and Toki, maintaining his established narrative role.
