OVA
Description
Nakoruru is a young Ainu priestess and the central character of Samurai Spirits 2: Asura Zanmaden. Born in the village of Kamuikotan in 1771, she serves as a defender of nature, guided by a deep reverence for the natural world and a belief that any being with a heart deserves to live in peace. Her background is rooted in the loss of her father, whose death compelled her to become a Kamui warrior, a role she initially accepted reluctantly to protect her younger sister, Rimururu, from inheriting the same dangerous duty. Nakoruru is gentle and shy in demeanor, often perceived as doll-like by others, a description that does not please her. Despite her pacifistic nature, she is maternal and protective, especially toward Rimururu. Her core motivation is to restore harmony and prevent unnecessary bloodshed, and she struggles with the internal conflict between her desire for nonviolent solutions and the need to take up arms when innocent lives are threatened. In the story of Asura Zanmaden, Nakoruru is torn by her moral convictions but eventually agrees to draw her blade and fight for those who require defending. Her journey involves aiding the character Shiki, an act that tests her resolve and leads to a confrontation with her own darker alter ego, Rera. Rera attempts to persuade her to abandon fighting, but ultimately comes to understand Nakoruru’s choice, warning her that failure will bring fatal consequences. Nakoruru shares a close bond with Rimururu and a deep friendship with the swordsman Haohmaru, with whom she often allies against evil forces. Her abilities include wielding a ceremonial short sword known as the Chichi-ushi, commanding her trusted hawk companion Mamahaha in battle, communicating with the spirits of nature, reflecting projectiles with her cloak, and using nature’s power to heal wounds. Throughout the OVA, her development centers on reconciling her peaceful ideals with the harsh necessity of combat, ultimately reaffirming her commitment to protect life while staying true to her compassionate heart.
