Description
Barricade is a Decepticon who appears in the live-action film Transformers: Dark of the Moon, continuing a role that began in the first live-action Transformers film from 2007. Known as N.B.E. 04, he is a relatively compact but deadly warrior who transforms into a police car, using this disguise to deceptive effect.
In terms of personality, Barricade is described as fractious even by the volatile standards of the Decepticons. He possesses a cruel and ironic sense of humor, enjoying the act of tricking others into trusting him simply to witness their reaction when he reveals his true, lethal nature. His attitude toward his own faction is inconsistent, yet he demonstrates a pragmatic willingness to follow leaders like Starscream when it serves the Decepticon cause. In contrast, his stance on the Autobots is absolute and unwavering: he wishes to destroy them all and thoroughly relishes any opportunity to engage them in combat.
Barricade's primary motivation is the prosecution of the war against the Autobots. He is driven by a deep-seated hatred for them and a desire to see their destruction. Unlike some of his larger and more powerful comrades, he compensates for his smaller stature with ferocity, cleverness, and a sadistic enjoyment of close-quarters fighting.
In Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Barricade serves as one of the many Decepticon forces participating in the occupation of Chicago. Acting under the command of the communications officer Soundwave, he plays a direct role in the subjugation of the captured Autobots. He is shown kicking his long-standing rival, Bumblebee, and when the human traitor Dylan Gould orders the execution of the prisoners, Barricade eagerly steps forward. He callously pushes the Autobot scientist Que into the open and shoots him in the back, laughing derisively as his victim falls. This act demonstrates his cruelty and his complete lack of mercy. His role in the film's climax is cut short when a distraction caused by the small Autobot allies Wheelie and Brains allows the prisoners to escape, leading to Soundwave's death.
Barricade has a notable, long-standing rivalry with the Autobot scout Bumblebee, which originated in the 2007 film and continues in Dark of the Moon. He also shares a relationship with the larger Decepticon forces, serving under commanders like Soundwave and later joining Shockwave after the Autobots escape. His history includes being partnered with the small, spy drone Frenzy, though Frenzy does not appear in this film.
While Barricade escapes the initial Autobot breakout, he meets his end later in the battle. During a confrontation with NEST forces, he is blinded by sniper fire to his eyes. As he stumbles in pain, human soldiers attach an explosive device to his leg, crippling him. He collapses and attempts to crawl to safety but is ultimately killed by a volley of gunfire to the head. This fate is depicted as final within the context of this film.
Barricade possesses several notable abilities. His primary skill is deception, using his alternate mode as a police car to lure or intimidate human targets. He is armed with a mace or rotating blade weapon for close-quarters combat and is also equipped with a firearm. He has sirens in his vehicle mode that he can activate to clear a path or create confusion. Despite not being the largest Decepticon, he is depicted as a highly capable and dangerous fighter, able to hold his own against Autobots like Bumblebee.
