Description
In the accounting department of a mid-sized Japanese corporation, Kyoko Tanaka is the quintessential plain office lady. Approaching forty, she has no friends at work, no romantic relationships, and is generally dismissed by her younger colleagues as an unsociable oddity. What her coworkers do not know is that at night, she transforms into Sali, a confident and mesmerizing belly dancer who performs at an exotic restaurant called Sabalan.

One of the temp workers who looks down on Tanaka is twenty-three-year-old Akari Kurahashi. Outwardly cheerful and fashionable, Akari is driven by a deep-seated anxiety that her value as a woman is tied solely to her youth and cuteness. Convinced her time is running out, she throws herself into a relentless cycle of matchmaking parties and mixers, searching for a husband. Despite her efforts, she feels increasingly empty and lonely, with her shallow encounters leaving her unfulfilled.

A chance incident leads Akari to Sabalan, where she is captivated by the performance of the exotic dancer Sali. She is shocked to discover that this object of her admiration is the drab Tanaka-san from her office. Rather than exposing her colleague, Akari becomes fascinated and begins to observe Kyoko with new eyes, slowly developing a deep respect for her secret passion and self-possession.

As their unlikely friendship develops, Akari learns that Kyoko has deliberately chosen to keep her professional life and her art completely separate. For Kyoko, belly dancing is not a performance for others but an essential expression of her true self, a source of joy and discipline that requires no external validation. Inspired by Kyokos unwavering commitment to her own happiness, Akari begins to question the frantic pursuit of marriage that has defined her self-worth. The two polar opposites form a powerful bond, encouraging each other to reject the judgmental gaze of society.

Their workplace dynamic is complicated by their male colleagues. Kosuke Shono, a well-meaning but insensitive employee, initially dismisses Kyoko with casual remarks about her spinster status, provoking Akaris anger. As the story progresses, Shono finds himself drawn to Kyokos hidden depths, leading to awkward romantic entanglements and a growing awareness of his own superficiality. Meanwhile, Kyoko harbors a quiet crush on Keito Miyoshi, the charismatic owner of the Sabalan dance studio, which creates further emotional complications for her.

Throughout the ten-episode season, Kyoko faces threats to her secret identity, struggles with a frozen shoulder that prevents her from dancing, and confronts her feelings of inferiority when a legendary dancer named Aiko-sensei appears. Akari, inspired by Kyoko, begins to pursue a more authentic path, re-evaluating her relationship with her ex-boyfriend Shingo and her own professional ambitions. Together, the two women navigate the pressures of modern Japanese society, finding the courage to live on their own terms.
