Description
Chizuru is about to turn thirty and is engaged to be married. Before her wedding, she devises one final, unusual mission for herself: she will make Hibiki, her best friend from college, confess his true feelings for her. Her goal is not to reciprocate but to turn him down, believing this rejection is the only way to help him finally move on from his long-held, unspoken love for her. Chizuru wishes for Hibiki to free himself from being trapped in the past and find the courage to step into his own future.
The story is set in contemporary Japan, centering on the close-knit but emotionally complex circle of friends that includes Chizuru, Hibiki, and their longtime mutual friend, Karin. Karin is skeptical of Chizuru’s plan, dismissing it as a childish scheme. However, despite his better judgment, he reluctantly agrees to assist her in this so-called Confession Strategy. The narrative follows the trio as they set this plan into motion, with Chizuru attempting to orchestrate a situation where Hibiki will finally voice his feelings out loud.
The central conflict arises from the immense risk this strategy poses to their decade-spanning friendship. While Chizuru believes she has only the best intentions for Hibiki’s happiness, the scheme soon begins to spiral in unexpected directions. The narrative arc explores the unforeseen consequences of trying to logically manipulate matters of the heart. As the strategy progresses, the characters are forced to confront the true nature of their tangled relationships and unrequited love, leading to outcomes that none of them anticipated. The story is a bittersweet romantic comedy that examines how a well-meaning but potentially misguided plan can upend the lives of everyone involved.
