Crown Prince Cecil of the Kingdom of Alphastar has always found life tediously easy, his natural brilliance leaving him bored with the world around him. His monotonous existence is upended when he meets his fiancée, Bertia Ibil Noches, the daughter of the prime minister. From their first encounter, Bertia declares herself a reincarnated soul from another world who remembers that her current reality is actually the setting of an otome game she once played, where she is fated to play the role of the villainess destined for ruin. She announces that she will dedicate herself to becoming a magnificent villainess so that Cecil can annul their engagement and find true happiness with the game’s heroine.

Instead of being put off by her bizarre claims, Cecil is intrigued by Bertia’s earnest and unconventional behavior. He decides to observe her closely, finding amusement in her failed attempts to act wicked, as her inherently kind and clumsy nature leads her to perform deeds that are helpful rather than harmful. Cecil secretly uses Bertia’s knowledge of future events from the game, which she writes down in hopes of ensuring his best possible future, to subtly manipulate the world behind the scenes, preventing tragedies like the plague that was supposed to kill her mother. The central conflict arises from Bertia’s stubborn insistence on following the game’s storyline to its tragic end for herself, all while Cecil works to subvert her plans and protect her from a fate he has no intention of allowing. This dynamic is further complicated by the arrival of Heronia, the game’s designated heroine, who is also a reincarnated soul but believes the story should unfold exactly as she expects, leading her to clash with Bertia.

The sequel series, which begins after their marriage, finds Cecil and Bertia enjoying their newlywed life. Their peaceful days are interrupted when Bertia’s friend, Princess Lysonna, requests her help in planning a wedding in the distant Kingdom of Umyuve. Upon arriving, Bertia has a shocking realization: she has walked into the plot of a completely different novel from her past life, one in which Lysonna is the villainess fated for a bad end. Determined to protect her friend’s happiness, Bertia enthusiastically declares herself a stand-in villainess and resolves to take on Lysonna’s dark role. While Bertia busies herself with her new, self-appointed mission, Cecil remains his usual perceptive self, observing the political and romantic entanglements of the foreign kingdom and working in his own calculating way to ensure a happy ending for all, all while keeping his ever-energetic wife from causing too much chaos.

The story is set in a fantasy world reminiscent of a European fairy tale, featuring noble courts, royal academies, and magical elements such as spirits.
