Description
Yukito has known nothing but cruelty from the adults in his life. His mother abandoned him with his stepfather when he was young, and the abuse began soon after as Yukito grew to resemble his absent parent more and more. This pattern of victimization extends beyond his home, as he is sexually targeted by his father's colleague, who assaults him during a dinner Yukito attended in place of his father. After this traumatic event, found half-conscious and unable to walk, Yukito is discovered by Haruki Goto, a taxi driver. When Haruki attempts to carry him to safety, the disoriented Yukito reacts by punching him in the face.

The story follows what happens when their paths cross again, this time with Yukitos father also present in the taxi, and whether Yukito will retain any memory of their first, violent encounter. The narrative is set in contemporary Japan and unfolds across a single collected volume, comprising six chapters originally serialized between 2018 and 2019. The relationship between Yukito and Haruki develops against the backdrop of Yukitos ongoing struggles with the abusive figures surrounding him, including his stepfather and his father's predatory colleague. A significant arc involves Yukito being forced to wear mourning clothes as part of a disturbing arrangement, with the title Mofuku no Hanayome translating to Mourning Bride. The story addresses themes of trauma, recovery, and the possibility of forming a new attachment after profound betrayal, ultimately moving toward character redemption and the difficult process of learning to let go for ones own good.
