Description
Elsa, the daughter of a fallen aristocratic family, receives an unexpected and bewildering marriage proposal. The suitor is Julius, the son of a powerful duke and an elite nobleman far above her station. She questions why such a distinguished man would choose to marry her, but she accepts the proposition. Immediately after the wedding, however, the kind and gentle demeanor Julius had shown her vanishes completely. In a cold voice, he declares he has no intention of ever loving her, establishing their union as a mere marriage of convenience.
The story follows Elsa as she navigates her new life in the ducal household. Despite his harsh words and apparent indifference, Julius begins to display a confusing pattern of behavior. His actions contradict his stated feelings, as he showers Elsa with adoration through unexpected attentions and affectionate gestures. The narrative explores this central paradox: a man who claims he cannot love but whose behavior suggests otherwise, and a young woman of positive personality who faces his coldness with gentleness and determination.
The main characters are Elsa, the resilient daughter of a ruined aristocrat, and Julius, the heir to a dukedom with a complicated personality. The supporting cast expands the world of aristocratic intrigue. Rebeka Rikkonen, Julius’s childhood friend, is expected to bring insight into his past. Hannes Eukrainen, Julius’s younger brother, adds family dynamics to the narrative.
Notable narrative arcs include the initial shock of the post-wedding betrayal, the slow emergence of Julius’s hidden affectionate side, and the exploration of why he insists he will not love Elsa despite his actions. The story is set in a noble society reminiscent of a fantasy or historical aristocratic world, focusing on the tensions between public duty and private emotion.
The manga is written by Kei Misawa and illustrated by Natsu Mizuno. It began serialization in February 2021 through the digital service Comic Polaris under Flex Comix. Multiple compiled volumes have been released in Japan. An anime television adaptation has been announced and is scheduled to premiere in July 2026.
