Description
On a night of the full moon, Chikayuki Murata, a former office worker who has just been dumped by his girlfriend, spots a young man standing on the railing of a bridge. Believing the stranger is about to jump, Chikayuki rushes to pull him to safety, but instead causes both of them to tumble into the river below. The man, Rei Aihara, was merely trying to get a better view of the moon. Feeling responsible for the mishap, Chikayuki takes the unconscious Rei back to his home, the apartment above the coffee shop he inherited from his late grandfather.
The story is set primarily in this cozy coffee shop and the surrounding city. The narrative follows the whirlwind romance that develops between the quiet, grounded coffee shop owner and the flamboyant, impulsive idol. Rei, a member of a popular idol group called Clan, is immediately charmed by the fact that Chikayuki does not recognize him. After a night of batting cages, bowling, and arcade games, Rei decides he has found his destiny and moves into Chikayuki's home without warning.
Chikayuki Murata is the owner of a coffee shop left to him by his grandfather, who raised him after his parents died. He is depicted as kind, mellow, and emotionally self-reliant to a fault, often keeping his feelings of loneliness hidden behind a cheerful demeanor. Rei Aihara is a famous idol who is open about his affections and seeks genuine connection outside of his demanding career. He is tired of being treated like an untouchable star and finds Chikayuki’s normalcy and sincerity to be a refuge from his stressful life. His relationship with his cold, perfectionist father is a significant source of personal conflict.
The narrative is structured around several key arcs. The story begins with the meet-cute on the bridge and Rei’s immediate decision to move in. An early arc focuses on Rei integrating into Chikayuki’s life, as his idol group members express jealousy and slowly accept their relationship. The central conflict emerges as Chikayuki begins to see Rei everywhere on billboards, television, and in magazines. He starts to doubt his own feelings, questioning whether his love is genuine or if he is simply dazzled by Rei’s celebrity status. Instead of communicating, he turns to tabloid articles to learn about his partner, creating a rift that forces both men to confront their deepest insecurities. The climax sees Chikayuki breaking down and admitting his profound loneliness, while Rei finds the courage to stand up to his father. The story concludes on a sweet note, resolving the misunderstandings and affirming the couple’s commitment to one another.
