Lala Tanaka is a modern high school girl for whom makeup is everything, yet she feels something missing from her life. Her world changes when she encounters her quiet classmate, Kanade Kuga, a reclusive genius painter. Instantly captivated by the emotional power of his artwork, Lala decides she wants to join the school's art club to pursue this new passion.

The story is set within the competitive world of a Japanese high school art club, where disciplined practice and raw talent collide. Standing in Lala's way is Yuriko Shinohara, the stern and upstanding club chairperson who strictly enforces school rules and has little patience for Lala's gyaru (gal) fashion and makeup-obsessed image.
