Manga
Description
Entering her university years, Otomeki Otome holds a vague but earnest desire to start something new and exciting. Her life takes an unexpected turn when a sleek, impressive car zips past her. It is a crimson Mazda Roadster, and behind the wheel is a passionate car enthusiast named Yaoe Zeniyama. Captivated by Yaoe’s energetic and persuasive pitch about the joys of open-top driving, Otome finds herself on an unforeseen path, purchasing a pure white Daihatsu Copen and diving headfirst into a new lifestyle.

The story is set against the backdrop of a Japanese university campus and the open roads, where the changing seasons and scenic landscapes become part of the driving experience. The core of the manga follows Otome as she navigates this unfamiliar world. Despite her initial dreams of a glamorous university life, she quickly discovers that Yaoe and her other car-loving friends at the university are an eccentric and intense bunch. This leads to a series of comedic and heartwarming situations, as Otome balances her anxieties about this new hobby with her growing affection for her beloved car, which she nicknames Gero-chan.

Notable narrative arcs include the initial acquisition of the Copen, driven by Yaoe's relentless but friendly persuasion. Another early arc features a drive with Otome’s friend Moe-chan, who owns a different type of vehicle, a Daihatsu Taft, showcasing the variety of car cultures and friendships that form around the simple joy of driving. Throughout these experiences, the manga explores the contrast between the serene, glamorous image of owning an open-top car and the messy, chaotic, yet deeply passionate reality of the enthusiasts who love them. The story progresses from a tentative first purchase to embracing a full-fledged, if slightly absurd, university life with open-top cars at its center.
