Description
A noble young lady named Nicole has had her heart broken more times than she can count by her fiancé, Keios. Day after day, Keios overlooks her in favor of Princess Caroline, his childhood friend and the unrivalled belle of their elite aristocratic academy. The final straw comes when Keios presents Nicole with a bouquet of flowers he thought she would love simply because Caroline did, making it painfully clear that he confuses the preferences of the two women. After one too many slights, Nicole makes a bold decision: If he can do as he pleases, why should she not do the same? Tired of waiting around and conforming to Keios needs, she decides their arranged marriage will be a purely formal, white marriage. She resolves that while she may be stuck in the engagement, she is perfectly fine doing things on her own and will live for herself, enjoying every day to the fullest.

The story reveals that not everything is as it initially seems. Keios is not secretly in love with Caroline; rather, he is simply an idiot who has no idea how to act around a more traditionally girly woman like Nicole. Having grown up with the tomboyish Caroline, he relied on her for advice on how to treat Nicole, never realizing how hurtful his constant prioritization of his childhood friend was. When Nicole suddenly stops caring and begins to ignore him, Keios is utterly shocked. He becomes increasingly unhinged as he slowly realizes the magnitude of the damage he has caused, eventually wishing to find a way to make Nicole love him again even as his friends, including Caroline, tell him he is likely too late.

The series follows a liberated Nicole as she begins to shine on her own. She visits town alone, attends events without an attendant, makes new friends, and dedicates time to serious reading, embracing her newfound independence. However, her resolve creates a deep comedic irony. While she has given up on love, her oblivious behavior causes Keios to scramble desperately to win back a woman who is now stubbornly determined to be alone. Later in the narrative, Nicole considers drastic measures such as studying abroad in a country where women have equal rights, a stark contrast to her own kingdom.

Set within a fantasy noble society reminiscent of Bridgerton, the story leans heavily into the gossipy and misunderstanding-prone nature of high society. The narrative unfolds through the perspectives of multiple characters, including Keios and Caroline, providing a clear understanding of the series of communication failures that caused the rift. This leads to a situation where the truth gets embellished, making it difficult for the cast to discern reality from rumor. The dynamic results in a romantic comedy that explores what happens when a neglected fiancée decides she is better off alone, only for her clueless betrothed to realize far too late what he has lost.
