Description
The story begins with Kon, a young woman several years out of college, struggling to find steady employment. After another failed job interview, she is stopped on the street by a beautiful and confident woman named Ai, who mistakes her for someone else. While Kon is living under the pressure of her mother’s expectations to find either a job or a husband, Ai works at a hostess club and appears to be searching for the whereabouts of a specific person.
Their connection deepens when Kon is harassed by a man who promised her a job in exchange for sex. Ai steps in to defend her, scaring the man off. Later that night, Kon sees Ai fleeing from another man on the street. Ai reveals that the man is the husband of her ex-lover, Kaede. Unable to return to her work dormitory after running away, Kon impulsively invites Ai to stay at her home.
As they spend time together, Ai admits that she first approached Kon because she reminded her of Kaede. Kon, who has never considered a relationship with a woman and is already struggling to fit into a neurotypical society, finds herself becoming attracted to Ai. This realization feels like a dangerous step into the unknown, as she has spent her life trying to be the daughter her mother expects.
The two women embark on a journey together, ostensibly to find Ai’s former lover, Kaede. However, it becomes clear that the trip is less about finding Kaede and more about Ai finding herself. For Kon, the journey forces a confrontation with her own trauma and her desire for a different kind of life. The narrative follows their personal growth as they navigate complicated feelings of attraction, social alienation, and the search for personal identity.
