Description
A 27-year-old woman named Asahi Hinomuka, dreaming of finally opening her own cafe, comes across what seems to be the perfect property for her new business. However, the space already has an occupant: a strikingly handsome but sharp-tongued 17-year-old boy named Akira, who is a complete and utter mineral otaku. Rather than compete, the two strike an unusual partnership, combining her desire to run a cozy eatery with his obsessive passion for geology to establish a unique themed cafe that serves dishes and drinks inspired by gemstones and mineral formations. The story follows the daily trials and triumphs of the mismatched pair as they manage the Prince of Jewelry & Mineral Cafe, an establishment where the menu includes items that visually mimic the striations of a quartz vein or the crystalline structure of a geode. Drawing on the author Yuu Kusano's real-life experience working in a jewelry wholesale company and participating in mineral collection field trips, the narrative frequently pauses for detailed and accessible explanations about the properties, history, and allure of various stones, aiming to make mineralogy entertaining for newcomers and seasoned collectors alike. A recurring element is Akira's struggle to balance his aesthetic idealism regarding rare and expensive minerals with the practical realities of running a business, often clashing with the more pragmatic Asahi, who is trying to keep the cafe solvent. As they serve a diverse cast of customers, the series presents several arcs where their menu items help characters discover new interests or solve problems, functioning as a heartwarming workplace comedy grounded in a very specific niche hobby. The manga concluded its serialization in September 2019, containing a total of 24 chapters that chronicle the growth of this unlikely duo and their rock-themed establishment.
