Kisaragi Miu is a middle school student who possesses a unique and troubling ability called Sakiyomi. By simply looking at a person’s face, she can foresee unfortunate events and accidents that will happen in their future. This power makes it difficult for her to form normal relationships, as all she sees when she looks at others are the misfortunes awaiting them. Hoping to avoid this burden, she tries to isolate herself, but her ability does not give her peace.

At her new school, her power activates in a disturbing way when she encounters a classmate named Takiyama or Takishima (depending on the source). She has a vision of him being seriously injured. Overwhelmed by fear and anxiety over this inevitable-seeming fate, Miu finds herself unable to simply look away. Takiyama, however, is not an ordinary student. He holds an astonishing secret of his own, one that makes him uniquely positioned to understand Miu's plight and the weight of her ability.
