The story is framed through the eyes of a mostly nameless female classmate who sits between two boys, Ren and Tadaomi. From her perspective, the narrative unfolds as a series of daily observations, where her desk becomes a makeshift post office for their constant note-passing. This begins on the very first day when Ren borrows her pencil, bites his own finger, and uses the blood to write a message to Tadaomi, instantly establishing him as intimidating and unpredictable.

Ren has a scary appearance complete with piercings and a messy uniform, giving off a threatening aura that frightens most of their classmates. However, this tough exterior melts away completely whenever he interacts with Tadaomi. In contrast, Tadaomi is the serious, stoic student who handles Ren’s aggressive energy with calm composure. The two have been inseparable since elementary school, a friendship that began when Ren made Tadaomi his henchman.

Although everyone around them can clearly see that the two boys are deeply in love, Ren and Tadaomi remain completely oblivious. Their interactions are a blend of comedy and warmth, ranging from Ren’s clumsy and forceful attempts at affection to Tadaomi’s quietly devoted acts of service, such as hiding his own physical strength to avoid making Ren feel inferior.
