Shinjou Shouryuu is a seventeen-year-old high school student who is physically the strongest in his school, yet he is gentle, earns good grades, and quietly maintains a blog where he writes thoughtful entries. His peaceful reputation is undercut by the violence he must use to protect underclassmen from bullies, leaving him little time for dating. To fill that gap, he escapes into the online chat rooms of the dating service F.I.L. Gates, where he adopts the username Kakeru. There he becomes infatuated with a user named Hal, a witty and kind-hearted correspondent. On the sixth-month anniversary of their first online meeting, Hal sends a message insisting they finally meet in person. The encounter, however, is far from ordinary. Hal is actually Haruka Arai, a fierce and combative classmate who cannot stand Shinjou in real life, and the two are shocked to discover each other’s identities.

The early portion of the story follows Shinjou and Haruka as they navigate the dissonance between their tender online personas and their explosive real-life interactions. Both are prone to violence and stubbornness in person, yet they genuinely care for each other through their messages and blog posts. Their relationship is rocky, filled with misunderstandings, jealousy, and repeated confrontations that gradually give way to grudging affection. The story becomes episodic, with each chapter or short arc presenting a new case that blends mystery, drama, and occasional dark humor. The couple’s relationship is pushed aside for much of this section, reappearing only in brief moments or tangential chapters. The investigative work tests their cooperation and sometimes strains their bond, leading to a breakup that is resolved only near the end. The final volumes culminate in a rush of resolutions, wrapping up both the romance and the unresolved mysteries of the online world in a condensed finale. Throughout the entire series, the artwork remains consistent, with particular attention to small details like jewelry and character expressions. The story explores the complexities of internet relationships, the gap between online and offline selves, and the challenges of maintaining genuine connection in a digital landscape.
