Description
High school student Matsuri Taniguchi has a deep-seated fear of vampires, a phobia she developed after watching a horror movie as a child. Her world turns upside down when the handsome and mysterious Kaoru Hotaka transfers to her school and begins to pursue her romantically. Kaoru is a vampire himself, and his appearance mirrors the film vampire that traumatized her. Despite her terror, Matsuri finds herself drawn to Kaoru, who is gentle, possessive, and fiercely protective. Their relationship launches a series of comedic and dramatic encounters as Matsuri must confront her phobia and navigate the supernatural world that comes with loving a vampire.
Kaoru possesses “high-quality blood” that irresistibly attracts other vampires, which constantly pulls new threats and complications into their lives. Matsuri, for her part, is a hot-blooded, athletic girl skilled in multiple martial arts, but she remains powerless against her irrational fear. The story follows their growing bond as they face challenges from Kaoru’s extended vampire family, including his younger brother Iku, his cousins Shiro and Shiho (twins who transfer to Matsuri’s school), and rival vampires who covet Matsuri’s blood. A particularly significant arc involves the sudden appearance of a direct descendant vampire family—the Takaoka father and son—who pose a unique danger because of their ability to turn humans into vampires. Another major conflict arises when a girl who claims to be Kaoru’s fiancée arrives, testing Matsuri’s trust.
The narrative is episodic, originally serialized as a series of connected short stories, each tackling a new antagonist or relationship milestone. Over the course of the manga, Matsuri grows less terrified and more accepting of Kaoru’s nature, while Kaoru becomes more emotionally open. The story balances romantic comedy with light horror elements, exploring themes of fear, acceptance, and the lengths one will go for love.
