A country girl named Aoi, fresh from a heartbreak in her hometown, moves to Tokyo to start a new life. On her first day she accidentally disrupts a photoshoot and gets scolded by a handsome young actor named Sakura, who dismissively calls her a “mendako” (a blobfish-like creature). To make matters worse, when she arrives at the apartment arranged by her school, she finds Sakura already there—half-naked. The landlord mistakenly assumed Sakura was a girl because of his name, and now the two first-year high school students are forced to share a room. A secret, reluctant cohabitation begins.

At first, Aoi and Sakura clash constantly. She finds him arrogant and cold; he finds her naive and annoying.
