Description
In her third year of middle school, Hiyori Fujisaki has a crush on Yuuma Mizuno, the most popular boy in her grade. When classroom seats are rearranged, she ends up sitting next to Karen Sasamoto, nicknamed Ren, who happens to be Mizuno’s childhood friend. Hoping to get closer to Mizuno, Hiyori asks Ren to help her win his attention. Ren agrees, and the two begin working together as allies. However, as they spend more time together, the easy, honest bond forming between Hiyori and Ren starts to blur the line between friendship and romance. Ren develops feelings for Hiyori, and Hiyori, in turn, begins to see Ren in a new light, complicating her original plan.
The story unfolds against the backdrop of middle-school social dynamics, where the characters navigate friendships, jealousies, and the painful gap between expectation and reality. Kotone Kanbara, another childhood friend of Mizuno and Ren, also plays a key role, adding layers of rivalry and support. As Hiyori and Ren grow closer, their relationship faces misunderstandings, self-doubt, and the weight of past attachments. The narrative explores how love can emerge unexpectedly, transforming an alliance meant for someone else into something deeper and more genuine. Along the way, the characters confront their own weaknesses, make mistakes, and deal with regret, leading to a realistic portrayal of teenage emotions. The story arcs shift from the initial scheme to win Mizuno’s heart to the central conflict of whether Hiyori and Ren can overcome their fears and commit to each other. The series culminates in a resolution that emphasizes growth, acceptance, and the courage to choose real connection over idealised fantasies.
