Manga
Description
Meiko Morita, a high school girl from the Akita countryside, is selected for a special transfer program at Amamiya Girls Academy, an elite all-girls school in Tokyo. She accepts the offer based on a promise of free tuition, a living allowance, and dormitory housing. Upon arriving in Tokyo, however, she discovers that the so-called dormitory is actually a manga cafe named Hedgehog. Her enrollment was secured by a misunderstanding: the school believed she was a famous manga artist of the same name. To cover her costs and stay enrolled, Meiko must work as a live-in employee at the cafe, living in a single-tatami-sized booth. She gradually befriends the other residents who also work there: Rie Amamiya, the cafe manager and daughter of the school's chairwoman, who is an enthusiastic manga collector with a skewed sense of money; Marika Suzuki, a lazy and popular video streamer who goes by the name Marica Belltree; and Neo Nakano, a small, fairy-like aspiring professional gamer with a sharp tongue and advanced tech skills. The story follows Meiko as she adjusts to her cramped new life, navigates her duties at the cafe, and participates in a series of everyday misadventures with her housemates. Notable story arcs include the group scrambling to save Hedgehog from bankruptcy caused by Rie's careless spending, a rivalry with a cat cafe employee named Michika Narumi from the same building, an impromptu trip to Guam after an air conditioner breaks, a sports festival where Meiko competes for a prize of a whole cow to feed her siblings back home, and the arrival of a mysterious wandering antique appraiser named Magical Momorin who decides to live in the cafe. The narrative centers on lighthearted comedy, the warmth of found family, and the small joys of manga cafe subculture.
