Kurosawa Tetsutarou, a section chief at a major Japanese corporation, abruptly resigns during a company-wide promotion ceremony, declaring he is done with a meaningless life. He ditches his fake glasses, gets a haircut, and on the train intervenes when a man harasses a woman, inadvertently confronting a yakuza leader. Instead of backing down, Tetsutarou asks to join the organization, impressing chairman Kusaki Sanzou with his willingness to risk his life. He enters the Souwa Rengo on probation, facing skepticism from hardened members and an order from middle boss Noda to prove himself by killing someone.

The story then shifts to other university alumni making similar drastic changes. Gentaku Gen, a senior Ministry of Finance official, also resigns, citing a lack of creativity, and retreats to the mountains to live as a primitive hunter-gatherer, building a hut and learning to survive alone. Kurosawa Aki, a trading company employee exhausted by male coworkers’ laziness, quits to become a hostess in Ginza, openly declaring her ambition to become the wealthiest woman in Japan. Kurosawa Junpei, a TV station worker frustrated by declining viewership and stale programming, tears up his resignation letter on the rooftop and vows to revitalize the industry from within.

The four characters reconnect through messages and a diner reunion, each following a radically different path: yakuza, wilderness survival, hostessing, and media reform. The manga jumps between their parallel stories, exploring how each confronts the consequences of abandoning conventional society. Tetsutarou navigates underworld violence, Gen faces a grizzly bear, Aki pursues wealth through nightlife, and Junpei battles corporate inertia. Their intertwined journeys drive a series of vignettes about risk, freedom, and the many shapes a reinvented life can take.
