Two high school boys, Tokiwa Souji and Yuzuriha Ikumi, sit next to each other in class and could not be more different on the surface. Tokiwa is tall, pierced, and openly obsessed with good looks, believing that as long as someone is attractive, nothing else matters. Yuzuriha is feminine in appearance, short-tempered, and deeply cynical, having grown tired of people who only see his face and never bother to know who he really is. When Tokiwa catches Yuzuriha about to enter a love hotel with a man he met online, he chases the man off and pressures Yuzuriha into sleeping with him instead. What Tokiwa expects to be a casual encounter becomes something far more complicated when he discovers that Yuzuriha, despite his bold curiosity, is actually a virgin.

Both characters carry wounds from being judged solely by appearance. Yuzuriha has been disappointed too many times by people who admire his looks but then reject his sharp personality, calling it a letdown. Tokiwa, for reasons tied to a past relationship, has given up on being loved for who he is on the inside and has chosen to pursue only surface-level connections. Their relationship starts as a physical arrangement, with Tokiwa proposing they become friends with benefits, but the dynamic gradually shifts as they spend more time together. Yuzuriha begins to trust that Tokiwa genuinely wants him and not just his face, while Tokiwa finds himself drawn to Yuzuriha's prickly personality and hidden vulnerability.

The series follows their journey from reluctant partners to real lovers, set against the backdrop of high school life. Later volumes explore their transition into third year, the pressures of exam season, and the growing pains of a relationship that started without emotional honesty. A school trip sparks new jealousy and possessiveness; Tokiwa runs into an ex-girlfriend from middle school who reveals the origin of his face-obsessed worldview; and Yuzuriha struggles to express his feelings even as his attachment deepens. Side characters, including Yuzuriha's kindhearted friend Tanabe and Tokiwa's younger sister Miu, create additional tension and moments of growth. Over the course of the story, both boys learn to show their real selves and ask to be loved not just for their outsides, but for everything underneath.
