Description
A frail human count's daughter named Adeline is chosen on her seventeenth birthday to be the fated mate of the third prince of the Dragonkin, the long-lived rulers who dwell in a floating sky castle. From the moment she arrives, she is met with contempt from the court, who see her as a weak and inferior human unworthy of the prince. The third prince himself is icily distant, rejecting her attempts to connect and seemingly wishing her gone. Isolated and subjected to cruelty from the servants, her only small comforts come from the few Dragonkin friends she makes among the knights. Her already fragile health worsens, and the ceremony to bond her lifespan to his is repeatedly postponed. In her deepening despair, she overhears the prince say he could kill her. Shortly after, she drinks tea prepared by a maid and dies in agony, poisoned.

Two hundred and fifty years later, Adeline is reborn into the same world as a human baker's daughter, living a peaceful life. On her eighteenth birthday, she receives an invitation to a ball held by the Dragonkin royal family to find new mates for the princes. The moment she touches the letter, her full past-life memories surge back, along with the terror of her murder. Convinced she will be killed again, she desperately tries to flee the kingdom. But the invitation is enchanted with a tracking spell, the borders have been sealed to find her, and she soon realizes she cannot escape.

The story follows Adeline as she is forced to confront the fate she tried to outrun. She discovers that the Dragonkin king long ago stole the true names of his sons, robbing them of their power and identity. For a prince to reclaim his name, he must be genuinely loved by his fated mate. The third prince's cold rejection was not hatred but a misguided attempt to protect Adeline from the political dangers of the court—an effort that backfired catastrophically. The crown prince, Adeline's seemingly kind brother-in-law, is revealed to have manipulated events and was likely behind the poison that killed her, as part of a scheme against his brother.

Compelled to seek the truth behind her own death, Adeline navigates a world still ruled by Dragonkin. She reunites with old friends, discovers dark political conspiracies, and wrestles with the fact that the prince who caused her so much pain may have loved her all along. As past and present converge, the hidden secrets surrounding her death, the stolen names, and the bond that refuses to break force both Adeline and the third prince to decide whether a love forged through tragedy and betrayal can finally be mended.
