Description
Princess Edel of the Kingdom of Zels has been raised as a lowly concubine’s daughter, mistreated and starved by the queen and her legitimate children. When Zels loses a war to the neighboring Ostrom Kingdom, a heavy price is demanded: the hand of a princess in marriage. Edel’s older half-sister refuses, so Edel is sent as a substitute bride to the enemy king, Ortius—a man whispered to be a savage beast with no skill beyond fighting, nicknamed the Black Wolf King. Terror and resignation fill her as she travels to the border lands.
On the day of the wedding ceremony, Edel’s expectations are shattered. Ortius is not a brute but a tall, black‑haired young man with keen, intelligent eyes and a calm, dignified bearing. He treats her with unexpected gentleness, senses her hunger and exhaustion, and quietly begins to shield her from further cruelty. Their arranged marriage quickly becomes something more as Ortius learns of Edel’s past and resolves to protect her, while Edel discovers a warmth and respect she has never known.
As they grow closer, their bond faces mounting threats. Powerful figures in both kingdoms—including a ruthless cardinal and remnants of the Zels court—scheme to undermine Ortius and exploit Edel’s low birth. Suspicion, political intrigue, and a surprising return of a figure from Edel’s past drive a wedge between the newlyweds, forcing them to navigate distrust and danger. Yet through each trial, Edel and Ortius learn to rely on each other, transforming a political arrangement into a genuine partnership. Their love story unfolds against the backdrop of border‑land diplomacy, whispered conspiracies, and the fragile survival of a kingdom caught between war and peace.
