In the capital of the kingdom of Shu, a fortune teller named Rin Kasei has built a reputation for uncannily accurate predictions. Rin always works from behind a bamboo screen, never showing a face, and relays each reading through an assistant named Shoumeirei. The truth is less mystical: Rin Kasei is actually a sharp-tongued man in disguise, and the entire operation is a performance engineered by Shoumeirei. When a messenger from the imperial harem arrives with an offer of a large reward, the pair cannot resist. Concealing Rin Kasei’s true identity, they enter the harem as a new divination service. Once inside, they are drawn into a string of unexplained incidents and palace intrigues.
