After failing the Kyoto University entrance exam the first time, Yamakawa Kashio finally enrolls, only to lose his sole defining trait: being better at studying than others. Surrounded by geniuses and prodigies, he becomes a self-described zero-person with no individuality, sinking into fear and gloom. While working part-time at a campus bookstore, he re-encounters Sawakita Yoko, a former high school classmate from the mandolin club who was just as plain and quiet as he was. Now, Yoko has transformed into the most famous student on campus, having entered Kyoto University straight out of high school and risen to fame as a female professional wrestler known as the Sunshine Kid. Overwhelmed by the distance between them, Kashio is stunned when Yoko publicly confesses that she has been waiting for him to come to Kyoto University all along. He panics and flees.

The story unfolds as a romantic comedy centered on Kashio, who suffers from Kyoto University student phobia, and Yoko, who is determined to bridge the gap. The setting is Kyoto University, depicted as a hive of eccentric talents, with local color drawn from the Kamo River and university traditions.
