In the fictional kingdom of Chiwa, eight noble families descended from ancient myths hold power, each member blessed with a unique supernatural ability called a jutsu. Seventy years before the story begins, the Amaha family—considered the most sacred of the eight—abruptly left the capital after suffering an unbearable humiliation, causing the capital’s spiritual balance to collapse. To restore order, the remaining seven families negotiated a custom: each new king must take a bride from the Amaha family, who serves as both queen and priestess. The story opens with the enthronement of the new king, Ichimine Naruya, and his marriage to Amaha Awayuki, a quiet young woman from the distant Amaha territory.
