Description
In the lawless Thai city of Roanapur, a brash, sharp-tongued nun known as Sister Eda runs weapons and information out of the so-called Violence Church. But before she earned that reputation in the criminal underworld, she was a rookie CIA agent taking her first steps into the shadowy world of espionage. Black Lagoon Eda Initial Stage is a prequel spin-off that peels back the mystery of Eda’s past, following her early field assignments as a newly minted intelligence officer. The story tracks Eda from her very first overseas posting, where a job in an underworld of scheming and power plays goes wrong and she is quickly sent back home. Determined to redeem herself, she takes on domestic missions before being deployed to the Balkans, a volatile region still reeling from the aftermath of the Bosnian War. There, she finds herself entangled in larger conflicts that leave a bitter mark on her psyche. Later arcs send her to a South American country where the CIA is working to destabilize an anti-American government, forcing Eda to make contact with rebel forces only to be caught in a sudden military assault that turns into a desperate escape. Another major storyline involves the hunt for Stinger missiles from the Afghanistan conflict that have been leaked to terrorists, leading Eda to London and then into a dangerous undercover infiltration in New York. She also takes on a mission in Cyprus to retrieve a weapons dealer, only to be hunted by a man with a vendetta against him. Throughout these assignments, the series highlights the key figures in Eda’s early career, including her handlers and colleagues such as a partner named Amber, while exploring her transformation from a green agent who still reads the manual into the cynical, quick-on-the-trigger operative who would later find a home in Roanapur. The setting shifts across real-world geopolitical hotspots and criminal hubs, grounding the espionage action in the gritty, morally ambiguous atmosphere that defines the Black Lagoon universe. The narrative emphasizes the brutal education Eda receives in the cost of intelligence work and the constant presence of betrayal and violence, ultimately showing how the young woman who entered the agency developed into the hardened survivor who would one day wield a shotgun in a church.
