Description
In nineteenth-century England, the Clifford count discovers a burning carriage on the roadside. Inside, a dying woman entrusts her young son, Alphonse, to the count before she perishes. Alphonse is taken to the Clifford estate but remains mute from the trauma of losing his mother. The count’s young daughter, Letitia, approaches him and offers a pastry. When he turns away, she feeds him directly from her mouth and embraces him. That day, Alphonse speaks for the first time, vowing to never leave her side. More than fifteen years later, Alphonse has grown into a handsome young man serving as Letitia’s butler. Letitia, now a beautiful young lady, spends her days reading romance novels but has no real experience with love. One morning, while she is eating a pastry and reading, Alphonse suddenly kisses her and says that his memory of the moment tastes like the pastry from their childhood. Letitia, who does not recall the childhood kiss, is completely flustered and begins to see Alphonse in a new light. From then on, Alphonse no longer hides his love for her, and the two enter a secret romantic relationship. Their quiet life is disrupted when Letitia is introduced to the prince of the Elfenbein kingdom, who takes an interest in her. As the prince’s pursuit intensifies, Alphonse reveals his own hidden past: he is actually a prince of a distant country, and the Elfenbein demand is a ploy to force his return. Alphonse confesses his true origins to Letitia’s parents, and the count orders the couple to elope. They marry and travel to Alphonse’s homeland to reclaim his status. After many trials, the two lovers finally live as husband and wife, bound by their childhood promise and an unwavering devotion.
