Due to her father’s frequent job transfers, Tsubasa Hidaka has spent her childhood moving from town to town, never staying long enough for classmates to remember her name. The one exception was a boy in elementary school who not only learned her name but gave her a wing-shaped hair clip as a keepsake. That boy, Shiro Aono, became Tsubasa’s first love, and she carries the memory of him and the hair clip with her through every move. When her family returns to the same school district in her second year of middle school, Tsubasa accidentally drops that precious clip on the schoolyard on her first day. A boy picks it up, and she immediately recognizes him as Shiro—her “Shiro-kun.” But the boy she remembers as bright and warm is now a cold, cynical, and strikingly handsome teenager. Worse, he does not remember her at all.

Shiro is the student council president, so popular that girls constantly fight over his attention. To prevent disruption, the council has a strict rule: only girls who have no romantic interest in the president may join. Desperate to get close to Shiro anyway, Tsubasa endures a test in which Shiro himself asks, “What do you think of me?” Unable to lie, she blurts out, “I love you,” and is immediately disqualified. Shiro’s cousin and vice-president, Kanya Kagami, overhears Tsubasa’s story and is moved to tears. At his instigation, a fake-couple arrangement is proposed: pretend to be Kanya’s girlfriend so that Tsubasa can enter the council under the cover of having no interest in Shiro. Despite her misgivings about deceiving Shiro, Tsubasa agrees and joins the student council.

Tsubasa’s sincere and straightforward personality repeatedly pushes her close to confessing her true feelings, but each time she holds back for the sake of the ruse. Through daily council activities, she slowly learns the reason behind Shiro’s transformation: a traumatic incident in his past that turned him cold and distrustful of girls. Meanwhile, Kanya, who started off as a cheerful and overly enthusiastic supporter of Tsubasa’s love, begins to develop real feelings for her himself, setting up a love triangle.

As the story progresses, Tsubasa and Shiro gradually lower their walls. Shiro’s hidden kindness emerges in small moments, and Tsubasa’s persistence starts to thaw his cynicism. A major turning point arrives during a school trip in their third year of middle school, when Shiro finally confesses his own feelings and the two become a real couple. From there, the narrative follows their relationship through the challenges of high school, physical separation when Tsubasa moves away, and a short-lived living-together arrangement that tests their bond. In the final volume, a younger rival named Nagisa appears, claiming to support the couple but later making a serious play for Tsubasa’s affection. This last challenge forces both Shiro and Tsubasa to reaffirm their commitment to each other. After graduating middle school, they navigate a long-distance relationship but ultimately remain together, with Tsubasa’s childhood dream of being truly remembered and loved by Shiro fulfilled. The manga concludes with the two of them happy and together, having grown through mistakes, misunderstandings, and a love that began as a one-sided crush.
