Description
A dedicated but overly pragmatic woman in her late twenties, Yamakawa Kinu, is desperately searching for a marriage partner. After a near-fatal accident, Kinu gains the ability to see a death god named Ten, who has come to claim her soul. Desperate to live and marry, Kinu negotiates with Ten for a one-year reprieve: if she can find a husband before her thirtieth birthday, she survives; if not, she dies. The setting is contemporary Japan, where Kinu juggles her mundane office life with the high-stakes race against a supernatural deadline.
Ten, a blunt and cynical shinigami, reluctantly agrees to observe Kinu’s quest and initially remains aloof, but living alongside her causes him to develop unfamiliar human emotions. Kinu’s practical yet socially awkward personality makes her dating efforts difficult, often backfiring. At her workplace, she attracts the attention of a handsome colleague, Tamaru, who pursues her openly. While Tamaru represents a conventional path to marriage and safety, Kinu finds herself increasingly drawn toward Ten, whose presence becomes irreplaceable.
As the year progresses, the emotional tension escalates. Ten, fearing that his growing attachment will endanger both of them, considers harvesting Kinu’s soul early. Meanwhile, Kinu begins to question whether marriage for survival is what she truly wants. A rift forms between Kinu and Tamaru when she realizes her feelings for Ten. In the final arc, Ten vanishes after breaking divine rules, forcing Kinu to confront the possibility of losing him forever. The story reaches its conclusion as Kinu must choose between fulfilling her original goal and fighting for a bond that defies the boundary between life and death.
