In a high school calligraphy club, first-year student Otogi Kure has been secretly in love with third-year Kuranosuke Sono ever since she saw a piece of his calligraphy displayed in the school hallway. Kuranosuke is a talented calligrapher with a lazy, teasing personality, and he enjoys playfully flustering Kure. As his graduation and departure for university approach, Kure’s feelings intensify. One day, alone in the clubroom, she finally confesses her emotions, and Kuranosuke responds by taking up his brush to write something just for her—leading to their first kiss.

This story, titled “Totoki wa Tototte Oite,” is one of four standalone short stories in the anthology. Each tale follows a different school-age couple as they navigate the nervous excitement, longing, and heart-racing anticipation of sharing a first kiss. Other stories include “Miyabi to Miyabi,” featuring a girl who is constantly swept along by her unpredictable partner; “Megane to Megane,” about a pair of bespectacled characters who want to see more of each other; and “Unubore ni Unuborete,” in which a girl gathers her courage to pursue her crush. All four stories are set in ordinary school environments, and each ends with the couple finally closing the distance between them.
