Description
High school student Ryo Hoshino was kicked out of his friends' rock band and abandoned playing the guitar, drifting through an aimless and unsatisfying daily life. When a chance encounter leads him to pick up the instrument again, everything begins to change. Determined to break free from his stagnation, Hoshino decides to form a new band. He crosses paths with Imai, an eccentric and intense singer who embodies a raw, old-school rock-and-roll spirit, and the two agree to start a group together. The story follows their struggle to recruit a bassist and a drummer, navigating the messy realities of the local live-house scene, rehearsals, and the difficulty of finding musicians willing to join what seems like a reckless project. The narrative focuses less on the pursuit of fame and more on the process of rediscovering the joy of playing for its own sake. Each new member brings personal baggage and clashing personalities, and the group must learn to function as a unit while Hoshino confronts his own insecurities and past failures. As they work toward their first live performance, the story explores themes of self-expression, the camaraderie of making music with others, and the raw catharsis of letting everything out through sound. The series unfolds in a grounded, contemporary Japanese setting of school corridors, cramped rehearsal spaces, and small club stages. Central characters include Hoshino, the hesitant guitarist finding his way back; Imai, the volatile vocalist who drives the band forward; and Ninomiya, another key member who rounds out the group's dynamic. Over the course of the narrative, the band faces internal friction and external obstacles, but the emphasis remains on the personal growth that comes from committing to something difficult and meaningful. The story ultimately is about the experience of young people throwing themselves into music not because they expect to make it big, but because they need to feel alive.
