Altina, the youngest daughter of the Monique ducal house, loves reading more than fashion, romance, or social expectations. Her older brother and sisters constantly pressure her to become the ideal noble lady and, to make matters worse, she is named as a candidate for engagement to the second prince. Desperate to escape both the unwanted marriage and the loss of her precious reading time, Altina feigns muteness after a minor accident, claiming that she can no longer speak. Her family, stricken with guilt, stops pushing the engagement and allows her to spend her days at the royal library undisturbed.

Altina thinks she has achieved a perfect victory, but her lie is immediately seen through by Shijar, the cool and perceptive head librarian of the royal library. Instead of exposing her, Shijar quietly becomes her only confidant. He is also a book lover and, as a hidden mage, understands the value of keeping secrets. The two form an unlikely bond as secret-sharers, and Shijar begins to protect and support Altina's quiet library life.

As the story progresses, Altina's ruse creates complications. She accidentally apologises to her siblings in her sleep, leading her brother Yuen to genuinely believe she has lost her voice from stress. Meanwhile, the second prince and his younger brother, the third prince, take an unsettling interest in Altina and begin visiting the library, forcing Shijar to repeatedly intervene and shield her. Altina gradually becomes aware of her romantic feelings for Shijar and starts to actively pursue him, but Shijar remains oblivious and treats her more like a cherished younger sister or fellow bookworm.

Later arcs introduce further obstacles. Shijar's own past and a former fiancée come to light, and Altina's father, who has been absent for a long time, returns with two new engagement candidates for her, dismissing Shijar as merely a librarian. Refusing to accept this, Altina resolves to take control of her own future and decides to run away from home to fight for the happiness she has chosen for herself. The story follows her growth from a selfish, book-obsessed girl into a young woman willing to stand up for her own desires, all while navigating a romantic comedy built on lies, literature, and a slow-burning secret love.
