In a world where some humans are born as Cakes, individuals whose bodies emit a sweet, delectable scent and taste irresistible to a separate class of humans known as Forks, who lack ordinary taste perception and are driven by an overwhelming hunger for Cake essence. This dangerous attraction forms the heart of seven standalone romance stories, each exploring the push and pull between desire, fear, and love among those caught in this predator-prey dynamic.

In the first story, a Cake named Washimi has long kept others at arm’s length to protect any potential Fork from being harmed by him. After a university orientation party, he ends up taking care of a drunk underclassman, Shinohara, only to discover the younger man is a Fork. The story follows the growing closeness between the cool and reserved Washimi and the affectionate, dog-like Shinohara as they navigate their opposing natures.

The second story centers on Asahi and Akane, childhood friends whose bond is tested when Asahi is diagnosed as a Fork. Akane’s father was killed by a Fork years ago, making the revelation deeply personal. Yet when Asahi confesses, he is shocked to detect a sweet fragrance coming from Akane, who is revealed to be a Cake. Their straightforward, youthful love is charged with the painful knowledge of the potential danger between them.

In the third tale, a Fork named Pino carries guilt from a past incident where he injured a Cake. He vows that if he ever meets another, he will spoil and cherish them instead. On a search for connection, he enters a bar and becomes instantly smitten with the quiet bartender Dayan. Though Dayan is initially cold, Pino’s earnest and relentless pursuit slowly breaks through his defenses, unfolding a devoted romance that begins over cocktails.

The fourth story is a comedic misunderstanding. Kenta has always secretly tried to protect his childhood friend Sentaro, who is a Cake, from other Forks. But Sentaro has no idea he is a Cake and begins to misinterpret Kenta’s constant protective hovering as romantic interest. The two childhood friends spiral into a chaotic back-and-forth of crossed wires and hidden truths.

The fifth story follows Yukito, an elite salaryman who leads a double life as a slobbish, violent FPS gamer at home. He lives with his childhood friend and best friend Tsuki, who accepts him completely. When Yukito is suddenly attacked by a Fork, the incident forces both men to confront the nature of their bond in a story that mixes overprotective care with long-suppressed feelings.

The sixth tale moves to an overseas setting. Lawrence is the third son of a wealthy pharmaceutical dynasty, and Theodore is the third son of the family of butlers who have served Lawrence’s house for generations. They have been together since childhood, and Theodore continues to serve Lawrence through his university years. But Theodore begins to suffer from an unexplained illness, which is eventually tied to his unexpressed nature as a Fork and his longing for Lawrence, a Cake.

The seventh story takes a unique angle within the anthology by including a normal human. Matsumura, a Cake high school student, has long fantasized about being consumed by a Fork, imagining scenarios inspired by a past encounter. One day he accidentally cuts his arm, and his classmate Igeta witnesses the act and mistakes it for a suicide attempt. Igeta is a normal human, not a Fork. The story explores Matsumura’s gradual shift from idealizing the blind love of Forks to developing genuine feelings for Igeta as an individual, separate from any biological compulsion. Each tale presents a different flavor of love born in the space between hunger and humanity.
