A middle school newspaper club member becomes intrigued by the enigmatic Hijiyama-san, an art student and devoted admirer of Van Gogh who sports a bandaged ear for reasons tied to his artistic passion. Their quiet interactions, set against the backdrop of school life, form the core of the Hijiyama-san series: a gentle, slice-of-life thread that follows the eccentric title character through moments of frozen surprise, listening to sounds with unusual care, crossing a mysteriously dangerous railroad, living together with someone, a farewell, a flower battle, a sweet encounter, and an encounter with a woman who knows too much. These eight episodes are collected alongside a new one-shot, Kaku Hito e, which follows middle schooler Miyuki Kisaragi after school as she immerses herself in drawing manga alone, offering a deeply intimate look at the act of creation.
